About JP Woods and Prints

Hey there! I am James Patton, Founder and Designer of JP Woods and Prints in Omaha, Nebraska. I have been messing with 3D printers and other maker technologies since 2015, and digital design long before that. My design specialty is practical/useful designs and quick fixes, as well as being able to visually conceptualize puns and wordplay. Outside of 3D printing and making stuff, I am a classically-trained trumpet player, chronic road traveler, and an instrument-rated private pilot! I currently attend University of Advancing Technology pursuing a B.S. in Digital Maker & Fabrication

JP Woods and Prints was founded on July 17, 2020 as a challenging project to occupy the void left by the COVID-19 pandemic. Without any hobbies to pursue, events to attend, or any concerts to practice for, we were collectively stuck at home with not much to do except game and eat. That is, until I had the idea of figuring out the Robo R1+ 3D printer collecting dust by my desk.
Starting with custom requests, I was able to greatly exceed the demands of these new challenges and hone my crafts of digital design and 3D printing, and eventually CNC woodcarving. As much as I enjoyed making my own designs for myself and friends, I wasn’t going to challenge myself unless I took on more custom and unique requests.
Nearly five years later, JP Woods and Prints is now a 2-person operation that I am fortunate to run alongside my wonderful wife, Hannah. The makerspace has grown to a total of 25 3D printers, a Cricut Maker 3 that we use to make stickers, the same Shapeoko 3 XXL CNC machine turned box cutter, and further growth is almost a necessity!
